How to Use Epoxy Adhesive: Mixing and Application Principles

By September 4, 2026September 7th, 2026No Comments

How to use epoxy adhesive should be guided by the technical data sheet (TDS) for the specific product, the substrate, and the service conditions. TECHBOND can support selection of a suitable adhesive system for your application.

Two-component epoxy adhesive consists of epoxy resin (A) and hardener (B). Mixing ratio, working time and curing conditions differ among products; one set of figures should not be applied to every epoxy system.

What is two-component epoxy adhesive?

An epoxy system performs as intended when components A and B are mixed according to the product instructions. Before use in production or on a critical assembly, conduct a trial to assess suitability for the material, surface and operating conditions.

Applications and key limitations

Epoxy may be considered for certain bonding or surface-treatment tasks involving wood, metal, plastic, stone or other materials. Adhesion, heat resistance, chemical resistance and durability depend on the specific adhesive system, surface condition and service environment.

How to use epoxy adhesive for wood bonding

1. Define the application requirements

Identify the wood type, moisture condition, surface condition, joint design, appearance requirements and service environment. For production applications, consult TECHBOND to select the appropriate adhesive system and trial plan.

2. Prepare the surface

The wood surface should be clean, dry and free from oil, grease or dust. Follow the selected product’s TDS for surface preparation requirements.

3. Mix and apply according to the TDS

  • Mix A and B only at the ratio, by the method and within the working time specified by the manufacturer.
  • Do not increase or reduce the hardener amount to speed up or extend curing.
  • Mix only the amount that can be used within the product’s working time.
  • Apply the adhesive and clamp or fix the joint according to the chosen adhesive system’s technical instructions.

Safety and quality-control notes

  • Read the TDS and safety instructions before use.
  • Wear suitable personal protective equipment and work in a well-ventilated area.
  • Do not assume drying time or curing conditions from a general guide; refer to the specific product TDS.
  • Run a trial before applying the adhesive to a production batch or technically demanding joint.

Frequently asked questions

Is epoxy AB adhesive always mixed at 1:1?

No. The mixing ratio depends on the specific epoxy system; follow the product TDS.

Can I add more hardener to make epoxy cure faster?

It is not recommended. Changing the ratio outside the TDS may affect bond performance. Choose a system with suitable working and curing times, or contact TECHBOND for advice.

Can epoxy adhesive be used on every material?

It should not be assumed. Assess the material, surface, load, environment and technical documentation before use.
