Foam Adhesive: Types, Selection, Prices and Safe Use

By October 8, 2026No Comments

Foam adhesive is designed for bonding foam materials and can provide a strong, reliable bond. It is used in both industrial production and everyday applications.

Foam adhesive should be selected according to the type of foam, substrate, application method and required bond strength. Clean surfaces, the correct coating weight and adequate pressing time help produce a stable bond. See also adhesives for carton bonding and industrial wood adhesives.

Basic foam bonding process

  1. Check the materials and clean the bonding surfaces.
  2. Apply the adhesive evenly according to its technical instructions.
  3. Position the parts correctly and maintain suitable pressure.
  4. Allow the bond to dry or cure fully before use.

What is foam adhesive?

Foam adhesive is a product formulated to bond foam materials. Some formulations are rubber based and can form a strong bond that is difficult to separate once set. The appropriate formulation depends on the foam and the surface being bonded.

Types of foam adhesive

Depending on the intended use, customers can choose among several commonly used adhesive technologies.

PU adhesive: one-component polyurethane

Moisture-curing, one-component PU adhesives containing diphenylmethane diisocyanate are used mainly in the production of recycled foam. Always follow the product’s technical and safety instructions.

Foam adhesive applicationHot melt adhesive for foam

Suitable hot melt adhesives bond a range of materials, including foam, felt and nonwoven fabric. The grade should be matched to the substrates and application equipment.

Water-based white adhesive for foam

Depending on the application and requirements for adhesion, heat resistance and other properties, water-based white adhesive may be used to bond foam sheets or laminate paper to foam, including in the manufacture of electronic components.

Choosing an adhesive for foamHow should you choose a foam adhesive?

TECHBOND Vietnam recommends considering the following factors when selecting a durable adhesive suited to your process.

  • Choose a formulation that fits the intended use, bonding location and substrate so the bond resists peeling.
  • Compare the technical information and performance of different adhesives before selecting a product.
  • Choose a product with a clear origin and reliable quality controls. TECHBOND can advise on grades suited to specific production requirements.
