Is PVA Glue the Same as White Glue?

By September 14, 2026No Comments

PVA glue is commonly called white glue or milk glue, but the names can refer to different formulations and applications.

What is PVA glue?

Polyvinyl acetate, or PVA, is a water-based polymer used to bond porous materials such as paper, cardboard and wood. It dries to form a flexible, generally transparent film.

Is it the same as white glue?

Many white glues are PVA-based, so the terms are often used interchangeably. However, products may differ in solids content, viscosity, drying speed, water resistance and additives. Always check the technical data sheet before selecting a product.

Common applications

  • Paper, carton and packaging assembly
  • Woodworking and furniture production
  • Bookbinding and school or craft projects

Choose the grade according to the substrate, production speed and required bond strength. TECHBOND can recommend a suitable PVA adhesive for your process.
