Is PVA wood glue toxic?

Most water-based PVA wood glues contain polyvinyl acetate dispersed in water and are not classified as highly toxic under normal use. However, the exact formulation varies by product. Read the safety data sheet and product label before use, especially for industrial grades or products with additional additives.

Potential risks

• Skin and eye contact: Wet glue may cause irritation. Avoid prolonged contact and rinse with clean water if it gets on the skin or in the eyes.
• Ingestion: Do not swallow the product. Keep it away from children and food-contact areas unless the product is specifically approved for that use.
• Dust and vapors: Sanding cured glue or heating the product improperly can create dust or fumes. Work in a well-ventilated area.

How to use PVA wood glue safely

Apply the recommended amount to clean, dry surfaces. Wear gloves when handling large quantities, keep the work area ventilated, and wash hands after use. Close the container after application and avoid mixing the glue with unapproved chemicals.

Storage and first aid

Store the glue tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and freezing temperatures. If the product enters the eyes, rinse with clean water for several minutes.
