What is D4 wood joint adhesive?
Wood adhesives are commonly classified by durability. In this system, the letter D refers to durability, including resistance to moisture and water exposure under the relevant test conditions.
The classifications D1, D2, D3 and D4 are defined in the European standard BS EN 204:2001, Classification of thermoplastic wood adhesives for non-structural applications. A D4 grade is selected where high water resistance is required for the intended application.

TECHBOND D4 adhesive: key characteristics
TECHBOND D4 wood adhesive is a two-component white-glue system. The adhesive and catalyst are mixed at the ratio specified for the selected product and application; the Vietnamese source article notes a typical 14–15% catalyst ratio.
- Strong adhesion and good resistance to tensile and compressive forces.
- D4-grade water resistance for suitable demanding applications.
- Suitable for cold pressing and high-frequency pressing when specified for the product.
- Resistance to common cleaning chemicals and solvents, subject to product documentation.
- Good impact and temperature resistance for suitable applications.
- Compatible with many wood types and joints, including flooring, particleboard, multi-layer boards and furniture components.
Applications
D4 wood joint adhesive is used in indoor and outdoor wood-product manufacturing where the selected adhesive grade and finished-product design are appropriate.
- Cross-grain wood jointing by cold press or high-frequency press.
- Automatic, semi-automatic and manual bonding processes.
- Furniture, panels, flooring and other wood components.
How to use D4 wood joint adhesive
- Prepare surfaces so they are clean, dry and free of oil, grease and dust; machine or sand where required.
- Apply a continuous, even adhesive film with a brush, roller or suitable adhesive-spreading machine to the relevant joint, lamination or assembly surface.
- Press the surfaces until the adhesive has set. Pressing time depends on the pressing method, temperature, wood moisture and other production conditions.
- Validate bond quality for the actual wood species, joint design, pressing pressure and board thickness.
Important notes
- Adjust the catalyst mix ratio only according to the specific product instructions and required bonding performance.
- The Vietnamese source specifies a maximum mixed-adhesive working time of 60 minutes. Use the current Technical Data Sheet for the selected product as the controlling guidance.
- Different wood species and surface treatments can affect bond performance and may cause colour changes. Test compatibility on a small area before mass production.
